Without Gilbert, the Cyclones will look to senior Nate Heise to fill the void at shooting guard.

They include Heise's 9.3 points per game on 72.2 percent shooting from the field and 63.6 percent from three, efficiency excellent enough that Gilbert may not have an easy time getting back into Iowa State's starting five once healthy. Should the Cyclones defeat BYU, they face either Colorado or Houston on Friday. If unsuccessful against the Cougars, Gilbert has until the 2025 NCAA Tournament to rest.
