He averaged just 3.8 YPC in 2024 after having combined for 4.6 YPC across the first for years of his NFL career. As such, it was somewhat surprising to see Chicago fail to add notable backfield competition in free agency or the 2025 NFL Draft. Rookie seventh-round pick joins Roschon Johnson as a depth option, but Swift seems destined to reprise a starting role. With the benefit of a much-improved O-line and Johnson's promising offensive scheme, Swift will be in tremendous position to improve upon his 2024 stats if he sees a similar amount of opportunities. Johnson, who was Swift's offensive coordinator during his final season in Detroit in 2022, called the running back a "fierce competitor" and praised his willingness to "find a way to put his shoulder down and move the pile."

Impact Swift is scheduled to make $8 million in 2025, with more than three-fourths of the money guaranteed. His 2024 performance was disappointing relative to the three-year, $24 million contract he signed last offseason, although it could be argued he was a victim of circumstance more so than a major part of the problem during a horrible season for Chicago's offense. The scheme should improve under new head coach Ben Johnson, but it's uncertain how much Swift will benefit if that happens, as the Bears don't lack for draft capital and cap space to pursue upgrades (or at least competition).

Impact Swift finished off his Bears debut campaign in relatively productive fashion, posting a four-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to round out a solid fantasy day. The veteran back fell just short of his second consecutive 1,000-yard season, compiling 959 rushing yards while playing all 17 regular-season games. Swift finished the season as the indisputable leader of the ground attack, and despite the fact there could well be a new offensive system in place next season, he should retain the No. 1 role heading into the 2025 campaign.

Now healthy, the Georgia product will prepare to face the team that drafted him in 2020 (Detroit Lions) on Sunday.
