Impact Harris suffered a calf injury last summer and missed Houston's first 13 games of the 2024 season. He was able to return for Week 15 and also played in both of the Texans' postseason contests. However, the linebacker still isn't healthy, though it does sound like the team expects Harris to be ready ahead of Week 1. Harris is the Texans' top backup linebacker behind starters Henry To'oTo'o and Azeez Al-Shaair.

C.J. Stroud - Managing sore throwing shoulder Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said Tuesday that Stroud is dealing with "general soreness" related to his right throwing shoulder, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Stroud was kept from throwing early at voluntary OTAs due to what was initially called a minor pectoral injury, but Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston now reports the third-year quarterback is dealing with muscle tightness in his throwing shoulder. Still, Ryans repeated that there are "no concerns" with Stroud, per Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com, and that the team is "taking extra precaution with him, but he'll be good to go." Stroud still has ample time, roughly a month and a half, to get fully healthy for the start of training camp. The most notable consequence of his current absence from practice is missing early opportunities to build chemistry with new wideouts Christian Kirk, Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, but the majority of such reps will be taken during training camp and the preseason. At that stage, Stroud will also face the challenge of adapting to a new-look offensive line that may take a step backwards, even after struggling in 2024, due to the trade of Laremy Tunsil to Washington.

Impact Schultz missed a handful of days early at OTAs due to an apparent leg injury, but he already appears over the minor issue. Now heading into his age-29 season and third year catching passes from C.J. Stroud (pectoral), Schultz is competing for targets in a pass-catching corps led by Nico Collins that remains crowded despite the departure of Stefon Diggs (ACL) for New England, and Tank Dell (ACL) being a candidate to miss significant time. Houston acquired veteran slot receiver Christian Kirk via a trade with Jacksonville early in the offseason, then added early-round wideouts in the second (Jayden Higgins) and third (Jaylin Noel) rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. Schultz remains entrenched over Brevin Jordan (ACL) and Cade Stover (collarbone) as the Texans' top tight end, but his ceiling seems to be as either the third or fourth option in Houston's passing game.

Ronald Darby - Hanging up his cleats Darby informed the Texans of his plans to retire Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Darby inked a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Texans back in March but is now opting to hang up his cleats at 31 years old. Darby appeared in 13 games for the Jaguars last season, making 12 starts. He was a second-round pick, at No. 50 overall, by the Bills in 2015 and played his first two seasons in Buffalo before being traded to the Eagles in August 2017. He spent the next three seasons in Philly before bouncing around to Washington, Denver, Baltimore and Jacksonville. During his 10-year career, Darby appeared in 118 games (107 starts) and finishes with 447 tackles (381 solo), and 106 pass breakups, including eight interceptions. He won one Super Bowl with the Eagles during the 2017 campaign.

Impact Stroud watched from the sideline Friday during practice while backup quarterback Davis Mills ran the offense. Per Wilson, Stroud's injury isn't considered a long-term problem, and the star QB could increase his activity as soon as next week. Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley downplayed the issue Friday, saying that there are "no concerns whatsoever" about Stroud, echoing what coach DeMeco Ryans stated earlier in the week.

Azeez Al-Shaair - Past knee injury Al-Shaair (knee) participated in Wednesday's organized team activities, Drew Dougherty of the Texans' official site reports.
Impact Al-Shaair picked up a knee injury during the Texans' divisional-round loss to the Chiefs, but he now appears to have moved past the issue. The Florida Atlantic product served as Houston's top middle linebacker last season, recording 70 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, four passes defended and two forced fumbles over 11 regular-season contests. With Al-Shaair back at full health, he's expected to remain one of the Texans' top defensive playmakers in 2025.
